About
Forty years in, and still owner run.
American Landscape Systems was founded in 1985 by Mario A. Bevilacqua, who owns and runs the company today. What started as a commercially geared landscape and irrigation contractor has grown into a business of around 350 people, working across the Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex, without ever taking on residential retail as a line of work.

- Licensed irrigators on staff
Self performed, not subcontracted out.
Most landscape contractors hand the hardscape to a subcontractor. This one does not. Concrete flatwork, entry features, water features, masonry features, screenwalls, retaining walls, carpentry features and site drainage are all done in house alongside the planting and the irrigation, which keeps the sequencing and the accountability for a project with one company instead of splitting it across several trades and several invoices.
Irrigation runs the same way. Four licensed irrigators are on staff, and the vice president's Texas Commission on Environmental Quality licence, number 6959, has been held continuously since 1998, the longest running licence anyone here carries. Permitting is treated the same: every project has a required city permit, and it is acquired on the client's behalf as a normal part of the work rather than a separate step the client has to chase.
The clients who hire this company are almost never a single homeowner. They are residential and commercial land developers building the next phase of a master planned community, municipalities and school districts building or renovating a public facility, retail developers opening a new center, hospital developers, multi family housing developers, private landowners with a large property, and general contractors who need a landscape and irrigation partner they do not have to manage closely.
Independently ranked, every year
A number that has been climbing since 2010.
Landscape Management publishes an independent ranking of the country's top revenue-generating landscape firms every year, the LM150. This company has appeared on it for well over a decade, and the trajectory is the story: No. 135 overall in 2012 to No. 96 in 2024, the same company, the same owner, twelve years apart.
- 2010
- No. 23 in the Southwest region for revenue, and No. 17 in the country for overall growth.
- 2011
- No. 22 in the Southwest region for revenue, a 25 percent gain in revenue per employee, and No. 132 overall.
- 2012
- No. 19 in the Southwest region for revenue, and No. 135 overall.
- 2013
- Named the LM150's No. 1 Big Idea of the year, ranked No. 7 in irrigation by service segment and No. 12 in government revenue, on a 24 percent revenue change from 2011. No. 111 overall.
- 2024
- No. 96 overall and No. 18 for growth, on a 39 percent revenue increase from 2022 to 2023. Published by Landscape Management in April 2025.

The hard edges are ours too
Stepping stones, colonnades and the grade underneath.
A courtyard like this one is masonry, carpentry and drainage before it is a single plant, and all of it was built by the same crews who do the planting. That is what self-performed means in practice.
What the work is supposed to do
Three things, on every project.
The goal on a project here has not changed since 1985. Build something visually engaging that sits naturally beside the architecture around it, represent the client's property the way they actually want it seen by the people who use it, and land inside the number that was budgeted for it. Those three things, in that order, are what the forty years of named projects and the LM150 ranking above are ultimately evidence of.
